Complementing them, the fine leather and chrome elements with their exclusive, hand-crafted look and feel bear the unmistakable signature of our designers. Fine-wood available in a choice of four different varieties – is also put to impressive use inside the CL-Class. It can be found on the door and rear side panels as well as on the innovative centre console, an object lesson in harmonious and coherent design which underlines the spacious character of the interior. The interior’s ergonomics are as important to us as its beauty. Clearly laid-out controls make many tasks easier and driving safer. It was with this in mind that we further improved the COMAND control and display system. Its display, a high-resolution 8-inch TFT color screen, is now situated next to the instrument cluster in order to bring it even further into your field of vision. COMAND is operated by means of the COMAND controller – a rotary control situated on the front edge of the armrest. This allows you to Access the COMAND menus in which you can quickly and easily adjust settings of various systems, such as the automatic climate control, the multicontour seats (optional for the CL 500) or the ambient lighting (optional for the CL 500). The COMAND function buttons immediately in front of the COMAND controller provide shortcuts for direct control of the audio systems, the telephone and the seat settings.
First-class seating comfort and a perfect traveling climate for four occupants. Freedom of movement (something which is lacking in so many coupés) is one of the defining features of the new CL-nowhere more so than in the rear seats. Her, the passengers can enjoy headroom and legroom aplenty as they relax in particularly comfortable individual seats. And they will also appreciate the EASY-ENTRY system which simplifies access to their seats. An even wider range of creature comforts is available for the driver and front passenger, who can choose between three extremely comfortable seat variants: the luxury seats deliver a pleasant cooling or heating effect, as required. The multicontour seats (optional for the CL 500) will even massage their backs (tiny air chambers create an undulating motion which stimulates the back muscles). The dynamic multicontour seats (Standard in the CL 600) are also equipped with air chambers in the side bolsters and the cushion. These inflate to provide optimum support during dynamic cornering. Highly advanced sensor technology is also to be found in the Standard automatic climate-control system.
As well as offering separately programmable settings for the driver and front passenger, it allows the front footwell temperature to be set independently, too.
