Seventh sense for danger

The A-Class accommodates many features which can prevent an accident. Our engineers have used all their knowledge for the safety concept. At each driving active systems like the Electronic Stability Program ESP and the brake assistant BAS for example ensure the prevention of critical driving situations beforehand. If it comes to a crash the A-Class is optimally prepared: Because of the intelligent form of the folding zone and the sandwich concept you sit at a higher level in the A-Class. The official NCAP crash test attests this with its highest possible rating of 5 stars. At an impact from the rear also, the A-Class provides optimal protection through active headrests which protect the head and the neck against whiplash injuries. In this way the A-Class has secured the first position in the passenger car seats and headrests test of ADAC in 2005 by leaving behind eight small and medium-sized cars.
The two-stage front airbags and head/thorax airbags at the front are selectively activated depending on crash type and severity. It enhances the protection potential for the passengers in the rear who are protected by active headrests. Curtain airbags and sidebags for the rear are available as optional equipment. Belt tensioners with belt force limiters at the front seats and the outer rear seats provide additional protection against impacts from the front and the rear.
